Calibration

In order to ensure that all HEAD acoustics systems are performing accurately and reliably, annual calibrations are recommended. Calibrations are an integral part of most companies' internal quality systems. It is usually required that any data taken with a measurement system is documented to show that a recent calibration was performed within the specified calibration interval period. HEAD acoustics, Inc. provides calibration services for all HEAD acoustics hardware systems. All calibrations are carried out using the HEAD acoustics factory calibration procedures.

Documentation

Upon completion of a calibration, a detailed report is produced which includes the following items:

  • Serial number and model number.
  • A list of reference equipment used for the calibration with their respective serial number, last calibration date, name of calibration laboratory, and NIST number.
  • All measurements with nominal value and tolerances. All plots are displayed with tolerance limits.
  • Before and after data: All pre-test measurements are recorded and all the corrections are posted.
  • Environmental conditions: Temperature and barometric pressure are monitored and recorded. Barometric pressure error and the correction applied are recorded where applicable.
  • Name, signature or initials of the person who performed the calibration, and the date the calibration was completed.
  • As Received Condition: All systems are thoroughly inspected prior to a calibration. Any defects or problems are noted. Note: Customers are notified of any repairs required to complete a calibration.
  • Due date for the next calibration.

Stickers are placed on all systems that have been calibrated listing the calibration date, the due date for the next calibration, and initials of the person who performed the calibration.

HEAD acoustics takes into consideration any customer concerns during calibration. Any additional information can be made available to the customer unless it is proprietary or supersedes the specifications of HEAD acoustics. If any additional calibration time is required to meet special requests, an additional fee will be required.

Record Retention

A copy of all calibration records is retained by HEAD acoustics for a period of three years. Copies of calibration reports and calibration procedures will be furnished to customers upon request.

Scheduling Calibrations

HEAD acoustics uses a computerized tracking system which provides automatic notification 60 days in advance of a calibration due date. The Service Coordinator will work with you to determine a suitable time to send your equipment in for calibration. All calibrations are completed within 5 business days providing no problems are found with the system. For an added fee, a 24 hour completion time on calibrations is available. Calibrations are normally performed at the HEAD acoustics Service Center; however, on-site calibrations are available where it is more economical or absolutely required.
