Simulation (H3S)

Driving Simulators and other Virtual Reality Applications that demand high fidelity sound reproduction depend on the HEAD acoustics H3S audio subsystem to deliver an unmatched level of playback accuracy and realism.

vehicle simulation

H3S is a virtual sound reproduction system based on binaural recording and playback technology. Using calibrated recordings for playback, H3S far exceeds the capabilities of "video game" effects boxes. H3S is capable of synchronizing and controlling a large number of recorded audio channels as well as vibration channels. H3S is a flexible, state-of-the-art, off-the-shelf system, under constant development to meet the needs of various simulation communities. Typical applications are driving simulation, training, human factors testing, and vehicle NVH assessment.

H3S is recognized for its capabilities in critical vehicle simulation. In such applications, input conditions can be updated in real time to simulate changes in vehicle speed, engine RPM, or exterior pass-by noises with proper Doppler shifts. The accumulated binaural sound is reproduced by a set of four carefully equalized loudspeakers (or by tracking headphones / earplugs). The feeling of immersion in the driving situation can be enhanced via the use of a subwoofer and vibration excitation at the steering wheel and seat tracks. For the evaluation of future vehicle designs, driving sounds can be altered using real time filters and/or added (synthesized) engine orders based on input from CAE models or Binaural Transfer Path Analysis.

Mobile H3S

Mobile H3S is a further development of the H3S technology that allows simulation to occur while driving an actual vehicle. Noise canceling headphones suppress the live vehicle sounds while simulated road, wind, and powertrain sounds are played back to the driver. The simulator uses the "live" driving dynamics, supplying speed, RPM, and throttle position data to the H3S to play the appropriate simulated sounds. The Mobile H3S allows the driver to evaluate several vehicles or package options in a realistic and comfortable driving situation.
