Frontends for Multichannel Data Acquisition

Head Acoustic's Multichannel Data Acquisition frontend product lineup

Noise and vibration test personnel are often faced with problems which require the simultaneous acquisition of vibration and sound data along with other parameters such as speed and RPM. These multiple channels of data are used to correlate airborne sound to its underlying mechanical sources and structure borne noise paths. HEAD acoustics offers several frontends to cover a range of applications from highly portable low channel count systems to laboratory based, high channel count systems. All of the frontends can be connected to a Notebook or PC workstation running the ArtemiS software to create turn-key multichannel analyzers. ArtemiS provides many automation and advanced triggering functions to greatly ease the set-up and acquisition of multichannel data. After data is acquired, the analysis features of ArtemiS can be put to work in the field to troubleshoot problems on the spot or to document and report results of a standard test plan. Remote control operation of all of the frontends is easily handled using the RC V Remote control unit.

SQuadriga Handheld Data Acquisition Frontend

SQuadriga is a handheld portable four channel data acquisition system that can be used as a silent standalone recording and playback system that is up and running the instant power is switched on. SQuadriga features flash memory so there are no moving parts or acoustical noise. Without a PC operating system to worry about, boot time is instantaneous, allowing you to start recording data without any delays.

In addition to standard NVH inputs (accelerometers and microphones), SQuadriga supports the innovative BHS headphone-microphone headset that allows you to record noises when and where they occur in the same way you hear them. After recording, simply press the play button to verify the noise was captured.

When connected to a PC via USB, SQuadriga becomes a powerful data acquisition and real-time analysis system. For in depth evaluation of noise and vibration issues, data can be processed using the ArtemiS analysis system, providing you with a complete laboratory in the field.

Typical application of SQuadriga in a vehicle: sound events (airborne sound) are recorded via the BHS Binaural headset. By adding two ICP accelerometers on the steering wheel and on the driver's seat mount, the vibration (structure-borne sound) is recorded as well. In addition, two pulse sensors are connected to record RPM and vehicle speed.

Octobox+ 8-Channel Frontend

Octobox+ is a versatile multichannel frontend that is designed to handle many sound and vibration measurement tasks. Octobox offers 8 channels of ICP/Direct inputs plus USB inputs for the digital HMS III.0 HEAD Measurement System or CAN bus data and two channels of tachometer inputs for speed and RPM data. Octobox+ is coupled to a PC via USB and can be used with HEAD acoustics software to form a powerful analysis or recording system. There is no cooling fan so the operation is silent. The systems light weight and battery operation make it suitable for portable applications. In addition, multiple sampling rates are supported, so frequency range and file size can be optimized for each measurement transducer type.

BEQ II.0 and BEQ II.1 Programmable Dual Channel A/D Converters

There are two versions of the BEQ II; BEQ II.0 and BEQ II.1.

The BEQ II.0 is a 2 channel USB frontend that features a choice of microphone, ICP, or direct voltage inputs to handle virtually any type of dynamic signal. In addition, there are 2 tachometer inputs to embed RPM, speed, or any other type of pulse input on the least significant bit of each data channel. Set-up and acquisition are handled via a USB interface and the provided software to allow 24 bit recording directly to the PC's hard disc. For users of digital artificial heads (HMS III) whom would like to add an additional channel or two of microphone and accelerometer data, the BEQ II.0 is the ideal solution. By connecting the BEQ II to the HMS III using AES/EBU cables, four channels of 24 bit recordings via the USB interface can be made at one time.

The BEQ II.1 has all of the features of the BEQ II.0 and adds head equalizations (ID, FF, DF, USER) making it suitable for use with the HSU III Artficial Head Microphone or the BHM III.2 Binaural HEAD Microphone, DAT recorder (DAT IV.1, Code 1365) remote control via RC V, automatic system check and a sound level meter function.

SQlab III

SQlab III combines the powerful ArtemiS software running on a notebook PC and a portable frontend docking station, which houses up to 11 input modules. A variety of two channel and six-channel input modules are available to allow direct connection of microphones, accelerometers, strain gauges, digital HEAD Measurement Systems, and CAN bus. Maximum channel count is 66 channels ICP/Direct inputs. Transducers with TEDS data can be recognized by the frontend to allow easy set-up of transducer information into the channel lists. This is especially important for assisting documentation of high channel count measurements. Simultaneous I/O of data enables tests such as Modal Analysis using shaker excitation.

Heim DATaRec A480

The Heim Data Systems DATaRec A480 Data Recorder includes 24 slots that can be used for all of the same types of inputs available for SQlab III (ICP/Direct, microphone, accelerometers, strain gauges, digital HEAD Measurement Systems, and CAN bus). Maximum channel count is 144 channels. The A480 is excellent for lab applications, and its features of DC operation and compact packaging (17.3"w 5.8"h x 12.7"d) make it suitable for portable applications.
