HMS III Head Measurement System Has Been Upgraded With Several New Features

HMS III

The HMS III has recently been upgraded to include several important features.

Two new interface connectors have been added to the base of the head to expand the I/O options.

The first is a D-Sub connector, which in combination with special breakout cables offers up to two channels of tachometer input, and analog outputs for the artificial head signals. The tach inputs support a TTL type signal. If conditioning is required for the tach signal, a PSB II Pulse Splitter box may be added to the system. The PSB II may also be powered from one of the connectors on the D-Sub breakout cable.

The other new connector is a USB connector to allow digital recording directly to a Notebook PC. The USB functionality combined with the new tach inputs means that all that you need to do recordings in the field is a notebook PC and the new HMS III. No other electronics are required!

There are also some new automation functions for recording head data directly to a DAT Recorder. When used with a modified TASCAM DAT Recorder, the HMS III can remote control the operation of the recorder. Commands for Record Start and Stop are executed using the RC V Remote Control Unit, which also displays record levels and RPM information.

The following is an overview of the HMS III USB applications. Note that a second head may be connected to the first head via the AES/EBU cable and that both digital head recordings are streamed to the PC through the USB cable simultaneously in 24 bit mode!
